Pretty low effort entry as things have been super busy – hence the lack of pipes – but I visited a friend earlier in the year who’s other half had expressed interest in a ‘lord of the rings’ style pipe, so i figured I’d give one a go an see what he thought.

As I’m still new to making stems, the thought of making a longer churchwarden one was very daunting, so i found a premade online and just made the stummel for this one.

It came out pretty nicely! I’m particularly pleased with how the staining came out and I feel my shapes are starting to get a bit better.

What I’m a bit disappointed with is the transition between the stem and the shank. The shank tapers in leaving a bit of a ledge between it and the stem. I did do this intentionally to see what it would look like but i feel it looks a bit misplaced. Lesson learned!
